The Deschutes drains a watershed that includes around 10,800 sq.mi., or approximately 11% of the state of Oregon’s land area, much of it relatively arid, only slightly less than the Willamette River watershed in size, which flows at an average of 37,000 cu.ft./sec. (CFS), while the Deschutes manages an average of 5,824 CFS, a little more than 1/6 of the Willamette’s volume.
