Calllistemon viridiflorus. A member of the Myrtaceae, order Myrtales and a Rosid. In more recent years this family has been found to be polyphyletic, meaning that particular characteristics shared by some, like fleshy fruits instead of Callistemon’s dried capsules, evolved separately at different times and places….So…a monophyletic clade like the Eudicots when looked at closely can skip around ‘evolutionary’ speaking. Certain characteristics can arise in unique combinations, genetically, ‘reawaken’, expressing different combinations of genes, already in the line and still fit in to the larger scheme?
