I photographed this on a visit to Hatley Castle in Victoria. This exhibits the classic Aster structure with its disc and ray flowers and the scaled bracts or phyllaries on the back of its involucre at the base of the inflorescence. All together the tiny flowers form a composite head that the uninitiated often mistake for a single large flower.
