There are 94 naturally occurring chemical elements, the others listed in the Periodic Table are ‘man made’ or highly unstable and largely absent in the universe under present conditions. Most of the elements needed for life are relatively common in the Earth’s crust. Most of the Earth’s crustal elements seem to serve little or no role in living organisms directly.
