Yunnan bright colors

The map above is from Matt Hartzell’s Blog. Keep in mind that 1,000 meters is equivalent to 3,280’. The highest elevations are concentrated to the upper left, in the rugged, north and south running Hengduan Mountains, a complex of several mountain ranges, cleved by three major rivers draining out of Tibet, the Salween, the Mekong and the Yangtze. The Himalayas cap the northern flow of the monsoon draining it of most of its moisture, which is able to drive into Yunnan from the south and southwest across the province’s border with Myanmar, still mountainous, but far less imposing.
