This is a 25 year old Parrotia persicv in my garden. I’ve let it grow into a multi-stemmed tree because I like the form, but also because this tree is a ‘sprouted’ and reacts to almost any cut with multiple sprouts. This original cut calloused over years ago, but still every year erupts with multiple sprouts. This is a seedling grown tree, from the specimen at Elk Rock Garden and evidences the seedling variation in the species. Those currently being grown as street trees have a very similar habit but appear to be less apt to sprout…good thing.
