This lawn is becoming overwhelmed by Dutch White Clover which is more tolerant of drought, it’s still green though its dull color indicates its slower growth here in late August. Clover has the additional advantage of being nitrogen fixing. Remember grass depletes nitrogen. It is also water soluble, meaning it can quickly leach away during winter rains when there is not a rich and deep rhizosphere to capture nutrients.
