Mondo Grass, Ophiopogon japonicus, is in the foreground with Acorus gamineus ‘Ogon’, left background. Both are rhizomatous. The Ophiopogon forms a deeper ‘turf’ structure above and below ground. Neither spreads quickly but they do spread and must be monitored to keep them from engulfing less vigorous plants that they might otherwise choke out.
