A more idyllic New York landscape can be easily seen here, when in fact this is Trinity Church on Wall St. in the heart of NYC’s financial district, a remnant of old colonial New York. It is hard to imagine when this was built, Manhattan a long low slung stretch of land wooded and still wild. Buried here are members of the Astor family; author of the “Night Before Christmas” Clement Clarke Moore; and author Ralph Ellison. In 1893, the Academy of Sciences erected a monument over the grave of the naturalist artist John James Audubon who had lived on an estate bordering the land the Cemetery occupies. The scale of this church and cemetary stand in contrast to the vast development that surrounds it.
